However, he could not find steady work and, therefore, moved back to New York eventually. During his time at New York University, he used to work as a radio salesman. InCobb joined the Manhattan-based Group Theatre. He supported Progressive Party candidate Henry A. Wallace in the United States presidential election. Inhe was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame.
