Between and Yoors travelled regularly with a kumpania of Lovara Roma whom he first met in Antwerp. Drawing on these experiences, Yoors wrote extensively about Roma, and his work is significant in that it offers an account of Belgian and French Roma resistance in World War II. That account is heavily fictionalised and lacking in details. At the same time it is important as early testimony to Roma resistance activities and has provided impulses to recent research on this dimension of the genocide.

I propose to investigate the establishment of the artist colony as inspired by Janco's past practices in the avant-garde circles of the early 20th century. Janco used Dadaist methods of readymade, disunity and collage, inspired by the non-European cultural Other. He was also inspired by collective and collaborative actions by artists motivated by social change.
In the interwar period, he took part in the Grande Reconstruction in the destroyed towns of northern France, which were restored according to regionalist principles. I examine how artists intervened in preserving structures or suppressed narratives of sites-in-conflict and propose to interpret their interventions as acts of preservation, as they undermined the supremacy of top-down national heritage agenda.
The research questions the acceptance of contemporary artistic intervention within the political system, destabilizing institutional modes of thinking, and how poetical visionary art relates to the ethical issues involved.

The research challenges the boundaries of art and architecture discourses with an interdisciplinary approach combining contemporary art and architectural preservation. It proposes an innovative methodology that applies a social practice discourse — relational aesthetics, participatory art and collaborative art theories — to analyze retrospectively artistic modes of action as creative agents that unsettle the boundaries of the heritage policy and promotes an alternative model.

The German invasion of Belgium in August caused the flight of a vast contingent of Belgian civilians, who found refuge in neighbouring countries.
These refugees were housed, cared for and temporary employment was sought for them. British cultural society offered various opportunities for the exiles and, apart from the people themselves, Belgium's heritage was cared for, and the reconstruction of the nation prepared and researched by British architects. According to the data of T. De Jastrzebski, an official in charge of registration, civil engineers and architects lived in Great Britain during the Great War along with 1, male artists and female artists.
So far, my archival research has shown that a significant number of artists who were among these Belgian refugees can be identified. However, due to the scattered events of the war, one cannot speak of a logical and well-conducted cultural policy. These artist-refugees landed in Great Britain and were then dispatched all over the country: they settled in London, Glasgow, Devonshire, Wales and Cornwall.
Aside from these visual remains, Scorel' s working procedure may also suggest his elevated status. There is evidence cf. This predilection for compositional studies on the part of Scorel, Orley, and Coeck is due first to the fact that such studies were necessary to an artist directing a large workshop but also to the fact that the appreciation of drawing was growing at this time.
In a sense, the culmination of this appreciat ion was the concept of disegno, formulated by Italian critics and artists, notably Zuccaro Defined simply, disegno was the idea of the composition. By extension, the drawing, as the first step in the creative process, came to be valued as the repository of the disegno, and was therefore evidence par excellence of the artist's creativity.
