I enjoy things that make me think. I think that to mix those things together takes thatkind of individual. The magic is in the making for most of these creative types ofendeavors. So I think by continuing to strive to live in the moment where all of thatoverlapping occurs I also seek out a balance from within. I was always very motivated and creatively minded kid.

My voice is something that hasbeen in the fine-tuning since those days. As a kid I was on a non-stop kick to draw out scenes from the movies goingon in my head. That, and trying to dream in Star Wars adventures. My grandparentseven saved all the Star Wars comics from their newspapers in Houston. Those thingswere amazing and probably what started me thinking there was a really skilled wayof drawing out stories.

I think that and the fact that our Dad always told us stories andread to us a lot helped feed that storyline building mentality. Book covers, copying skate deck art, then art history classes and onto self study in and out of school.

Ibelieve I began working on something major when I moved to Los Angeles. I really want to say things more eloquently, more effectively. I start up the day with vitamins and a trip to the gym, where I get my mind more fine-tuned for the day. Then I get into some painting, or writing, or both. Sometimes I get tomeet up with someone and talk ideas and have a tea break.

Depending on how the outof studio schedule is I can get another workout and go paint some more. I like to keep things healthy and active, so I have better stamina forlonger creative journeys and more clear access to incoming ideas. I listen to music and podcasts all the time. Music right now generally includes the latest from Bob Schneider.

It encapsulates a certain part of life and then there is another on the horizon. It talks about that a lot, about evolutions and transitions and becoming the next version of yourself and being comfortable with the new day and the realities that the next step brings with it. You're currently working on a handful of children's storybooks, can you share anything about those yet?

At this point I think every morning that I wake up and realize that I get to paint is a highlight. So seeing that come together was pretty huge. Just stay true to your voice and keep working toward your goal and making the best work that you can.

You can either be a part of the crowd or you can be on the stage. Be humble. Do amazing work. You can do it. The most effective way to market yourself is to be yourself. Everything is a challenge. The biggest challenge is yourself. The self will sneak up and psych you out if you fall out of balance. Stay healthy and choose healthy and positive people to be around.

My inspiration is one of those things that helped me start trying to coin a term that could contain the process that I approach my art with — suggestivism. I wish there was a way to just box that up as an understanding and package it neatly for everyone to consume. I can describe some of the things that I go through to paint, or to write, or some of the times that I feel the most inspired or creative.

I mean, even this mechanism of allowing thoughts to appear as words is a part of the process. The mind opens up in some way and ideas start pouring out. And that statement accepts that there are obstacles, crazy stopgaps that plague every person and especially people that are concentrating fully on producing creative output. That statement also invokes the presumption that we are all in pursuit of something, which I believe we all are.

Departure, you might ask, how so? We want to be included in that magical moment when the idea transforms through us into something physical. We want to share that with others. That moment of sharing brings people in and hopefully initiates a spark of thought that can be distributed or carried away; something that can grow into a larger conversation or a moment for another time.

I take time to step back and analyze or absorb the moment and decide what steps to take next. They do have the ability to negotiate with themselves and find new ways to be successful though. One of the things that really drives me onward is the curiosity to find out more — about the technique of painting, of thinking, portraying a moment or getting my feet, or hopefully my whole self into the big river of consciousness whatever you choose to call it.
